Queenscliff House

This substantial extension to an original fisherman’s cottage, sits quietly within its coastal and heritage setting. Addressing two very different streetscapes, the restrained material palette of natural hardwood timber and glass presents a distinctly modern addition, yet achieves a subtlety which allows the heritage listed cottage to remain the dominant built form. The cottage is refurbished internally to provide guest accommodation, whilst the extension provides an intimate bedroom wing overlooking a private garden, and a spacious living, dining and kitchen zone opening onto a fully glazed central courtyard. The inclusion of a central courtyard presents an open and natural light filled aspect to all facing internal rooms, whilst providing a secluded and sheltered outdoor space from harsh coastal winds.
