271 Spring Street

The 271 Spring Street development comprises the construction of a 16 storey boutique office tower above and behind two significant individual historic buildings, the former Melbourne City Mission and the former Eames Family Hotel. The project was undertaken in conjunction with John Wardle Architects, ARUP, Bates Smart Interiors and Probuild. Trethowan Architecture was responsible for the retention, restoration and restoration of the two historic buildings. This was a complex operation involving integration into the new building complex, the introduction of earthquake proofing structures within the retained buildings and the retention of significant internal spaces. Prior to the commencement of construction on site, the land was the venue for a series of archaeological digs which revealed a number of interesting finds related to the precinct’s somewhat infamous past.
